There Be Camels in Scotland

A few of us travelled up to bonnie Scotland for the weekend to go to a friends 50th Birthday party (No, not mine, I have a few years to go before I reach that nice round number).
We decided to take the 5 hour journey by car rather than fly, as we figured that after a weekend drinking with the Scots that it might not be a good idea to deal with taxi’s and airports as well as flying with hangovers.
We took it in turn’s with the driving, and normally, there wouldn’t really be anything interesting to say when driving on dual carriageways, motorways and traffic jams except to say, when I was driving.. I kid you not.. I saw a camel in a field! A flipping camel? I wondered if I was hallucinating at first, but nope, there was definately a camel sharing a field with some cows!
Friday night was a laugh, but I warn you, if you ever go to a doo in Scotland, which means drinking with the Scots, make sure not to do it on an empty stomach! To give you an idea (no, im not about to give you some gorey details of anything which contains lumps) I went over to the table we were all sitting at to grab my drink, and there were 4 drinks there, I asked which one was mine, and someone said “All of them” !!…SHIT.
So yes, as you can imagine, I was a bit (alot) worse for ware.
I have no idea what time I got back to the hotel (or how I got there), but I do remember I was hungry, so ended up calling room service for burger and chips! OMG! That was the most expensive burger and chips that I have had and didn’t eat!
Saturday morning, I got up at 9am as we were suppose to have breakfast and then head off into Glasgow to do some shopping.
So, we ended up going into Glasgow, and basically, it was hard work walking around Glasgow trying to drum up some interest in shopping for new clothes. We ended up walking around for 3 hours and then ended up in another pub for some lunch. By the time we ended up back at the hotel I was knackered and ended up launching on the bed and just slept (Did I seriously just type “ended up” 5 times in this sentance?… heck! Still recovering).
We were supposed to go out for a night on the town on Saturday eve, but to be honest, I was still wrecked from the night before, so bailed out and ended up staying in the hotel. It was all good until about 11pm, by that time I was wide awake and raring to go again, but it was too late to hit Glasgow by that time, so I ended up sitting on the window ledge, alone with my thoughts and looking out at the lights that lit up Glasgow.
I was thinking about what friends were doing in SL until the thought hit me that I must look like the girl in Lost in Translation! I wondered if I should go down the to hotel bar to see if there was a tall dark and handsome dood who I could share my peanuts with, but then decided against it watched a film instead.
When I was sat looking out of the hotel window looking at the lights, I thought it really did look cool, so decided to take a picture. Now we all have stupid moments from time to time, and that was one of mine! How can you take a picture from a hotel window, in the dark with a digital camera that has an automatic flash? Of course, it didn’t work, and all I ended up with was this reflection of myself taking the picture!
I eventually fell asleep around 2.30am, yet at 6am, I got a wake up call from a siren and a loud voice saying “There has been an incident in the hotel, please vacate the premises now”.. or something like that. It was the fire alarm (didn’t that happen in Lost in Translation as well?). So, 14 floors up in the hotel, I had to walk 14 flights of stairs to get to the bottom. All I could think of was thank goodness I didn’t go out last night, how would I have handled that!
There was no chance of getting back to sleep after that ordeal, so we ended up (gonna have to stop saying that) getting things sorted and going for breakfast and coming home! Which was good as it meant we go home earlier than expected and ended up (damn) having a BBQ to top off the weekend.
So there you go, that’s what I did this weekend.
